Wood pellets are a naturally hygroscopic material – meaning that under suboptimal conditions, they readily absorb moisture from surrounding ambient air. Even the highest grade ENplus A1 pellets will lose energy density if stored in damp cellars or exposed to weather.
1. Selecting the Ideal Space and Ventilation
The optimal location for storing wood pellet pallets and RUF briquettes is a dry, well-ventilated indoor space with stable ambient temperature (boiler room, garage, barn, or dry storage room).
- Relative Humidity: Indoor relative humidity should ideally be kept below 60%.
- Air Circulation: Ensure steady airflow to prevent wall condensation.
- Wall Clearance: Keep pallets positioned at least 10–15 cm away from cold exterior masonry walls.
2. Preserving Protective Packaging Film
Our factory-delivered 975kg pallets arrive shrink-wrapped in heavy-duty UV-stabilized hooder film with a waterproof top cover.
When accessing pellets gradually, cut into the hood only from the top to retrieve the needed bags, keeping the remaining stack covered. If a bag is accidentally punctured during handling, burn that bag first.
3. Long-Term Storage Lifespan
When kept dry inside sealed 15kg polyethylene bags, wood pellets retain their full calorific value and durability rating for more than 2 to 3 years without degradation.
Safe Storage Checklist:
- Keep pallets elevated on wooden skids above ground level. Learn more about our mill standards at hardwoodindustry.org.
- Protect pallets from direct rainfall and roof runoff. Explore our fuel specifications at hardwoodindustry.org/shop.html.
- Maintain a 10–15 cm ventilation gap between pallets and walls. Place an order for home delivery at hardwoodindustry.org/checkout.html!
